Weather Situation
A high to the south of Victoria will move into the Tasman sea overnight as a broad low pressure trough extends over the State from the north. The trough will deepen further on Thursday before moving east over the State on Friday. A new high pressure system starts to develop south of the bight later on Friday before moving slowly eastward over the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Showers and isolated thunderstorms about the eastern ranges and the northeast clearing in the evening. Possible severe afternoon thunderstorms in the northeast. Temperatures close to average in the south and slightly above average in the north. Southerly winds, tending fresh southeasterly about the coast.
Thursday 6 February
Warm to hot and mostly sunny across the State. Temperatures above average. Morning showers and cloud about the Gippsland and Otway coasts. Light to moderate east to southeasterly winds, tending westerly north of the ranges during the day.
Fire Danger – High in the Southwest, North east and North Central forecast districts.
Friday 7 February
Warm to hot and partly cloudy across the State. Temperatures above average, particularly in the east. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the eastern ranges and northeast during the afternoon. Isolated coastal showers along the southwest coast during the morning. Light to moderate northwesterly winds ahead of a cooler moderate south to southwesterly change extending from the west during the day. Winds tend fresh south to southwesterly near coastal areas during the day.

Mild and cloudy in the south with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the east. Warm, dry and mostly sunny in the north. Temperatures generally below average. Moderate southerly winds.
