Major Flood Warning for the Murray River and Moderate Flood Warning for the Tully River

MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLY OCCURRING AT MURRAY FLATS

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT EURAMO OVERNIGHT THURSDAY

Significant rainfall totals have resulted in river level rises across the Tully and Murray River catchments. Minor flooding is occurring along the Tully River with moderate flooding possible and major flooding may be occurring in the Murray River.

Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days, which may cause renewed or prolonged flooding depending on the location of the heaviest falls.

This situation is being closely monitored, and warnings will be updated as necessary.

Tully River:

Moderate flooding may occur along the Tully River.

The Tully River at Euramo is currently at 7.65 and rising slowly, above the minor flood level (6.00 m). The Tully River at Euramo may reach the moderate flood level (8.00 m) overnight Thursday into Friday, with forecast rainfall.

Murray River:

Major flooding may occur along the Murray River.

There are no observations for the Murray River at Murray Flats, however, based on upstream gauges, it is possible that the river level is currently around the major flood level (8.00 m). The Murray River at Murray Flats may remain around the major flood level (8.00 m) through to Friday.

Flooding in North Queensland catchments during December 2023 damaged high priority river gauges that support the Bureau of Meteorology to provide high accuracy flood forecasts. While river gauges are being repaired, the Bureau will continue to issue flood watches and warnings for these catchments using the best available data.
