Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea currently extends a ridge into northeastern New South Wales, while a trough moves over southern and central districts. This trough is bringing unsettled weather to many parts of the state today, but will weaken during Thursday as the ridge becomes dominant. During Friday and Saturday the pattern is forecast to be repeated as a new trough becomes mobile, triggering widespread showers and thunderstorms. By Sunday this next system is expected to be over the northeast and weakening.

Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms across the state except in the far west. Thunderstorms possibly severe about the southern and central ranges and adjacent slopes. Northwest to northeasterly winds in the north and east, tending southerly though southern and central areas.

Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms in central and eastern areas, more likely about the ranges. Fine and mostly sunny in the west. Daytime temperatures above average, particularly across the southern and central inland. Northeast to southeasterly winds in the east, tending light and variable in the west.

Friday 7 February
Isolated showers possible in all areas, tending scattered about the southeast inland. Thunderstorms possible in southern, central and western areas, more likely about the southern ranges and slopes and potentially severe. Partly cloudy. Daytime temperatures well above average in most areas, although near average in the northeast. Northeast to northwesterly winds, freshening along the coast during the afternoon, turning southerly over the southern inland in the south later.
Saturday 8 February
Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms across the northern inland, and central and southeast areas. Showers and thunderstorms becoming scattered in the central east and southeast during the afternoon, possibly severe. Mostly fine in the southwest, and along the northern coast. Daytime temperatures above average in most areas, although near or slightly below in the far south. Northeast to northwesterly winds in the northeast, tending southerly elsewhere.
Sunday 9 February
Isolate showers and possible thunderstorms in central and eastern areas, most likely about the northern ranges. Fine and mostly sunny in the west. Daytime temperatures below average about the southern half of the coast, and above average elsewhere. Northeasterly winds in the northeast, tending southerly elsewhere.
