Climate Driver update.

Just a quick update this time.

ENSO.
ENSO is still neutral. Having once again dipped below the La Nina thresholds for the last 2 weeks. To be declared an event it’s needs to hold for 3 months as well as meet a few other criteria that hold for a similar period, which are unlikely to happen at this stage.
The SOI index is well within neutral levels.

IOD.
The IOD is always neutral at this time of year so has little to no influence on the Australian climate.

SAM
The sam is currently in a negative phase. Which typically causes drier conditions in the SE of the country (not what they down there want to know). Only Western Tasmania typically sees an increase in rainfall during a negative SAM phase.

MJO
MJO is currently active in our region and should remain in the Western pacific ific for the next week or so, increasing weather in the tropics.
